LCD Televisions - Broken Screens During our working week we frequently receive calls from distressed customers who have had some sort of mishap with their LCD television. Unfortunately few people realise just how delicate an LCD panel is compared to the old tubed televisions. The picture above on the left shows a smashed LCD panel caused by a child throwing a Nintendo Wii paddle at the set. The one on the right shows a smashed LCD panel caused by a child throwing a toy at the screen. However, folk have damaged LCD sets by falling onto them, elbowing them, throwing ornaments, hitting them with a walking stick, etc. etc. As an LCD panel is not repairable, the complete screen will have to be replaced. In almost every instance this will render the set beyond economical repair as the LCD panel is the most expensive part of the set. By the time you add together the cost of the panel, labour charge and VAT it is usually cheaper to replace the complete set. If you are unlucky to have a mishap with your LCD television we suggest you speak to your insurance company, most household contents policies include accidental damage cover. If your insurer's require a quote this can be provided for an inspection fee. Self Help If you are not sure that you actually have a problem with your equipment, you make care to take a look at these troubleshooting guides before calling us for service. They are produced by Panasonic, but some of the information may apply to other makes. Plasma & LCD TV Troubleshooting If you have purchased a television or a similar piece of equipment from elsewhere, you may have found that installation is not included or is woefully inadequate. Alternatively you may have felt that you could install the set yourself, but have been unsuccessful. We are willing to provide a complete installation service, which includes tuning in the set, construction of the stand or cabinet and the connections of all other peripheral equipment such as VCRs, digital set-top boxes etc. We also fully demonstrate the operation of the equipment to you. Our installation charges start from £40 (inc. VAT). We also offer a complete installation service for Plasma and LCD Flat Panels, including wall mounting. The setting-up of surround sound systems is also a service that we provide. Another up and coming 'must have' feature is iPlayer from the BBC, this is a service that lets you catch up with television and radio programmes from the seven days that you may have missed. Up to now you could only access this service from a PC. However, if you have an integrated freesat television or box you will soon be able to use BBC iPlayer directly. This entails connecting your TV or box to a broadband network connection, which is something that we can install and set-up for you. Please contact us for further details.
